Wake up Call
Steve Devenyns

Because of the Great Magdalena Water Disaster of '13,
"Old Timers" was cancelled for the year.   The Golden Spur,
in typical fashion, cancelled nothing, and even added events to
the weekend - in an attempt to at least DO SOMETHING!
 .
The Trail Ride to Jordan Canyon got underway
late morning on Saturday.  We had over two-dozen riders,
in two groups, and another bunch on the hay wagon.
Lunch was served up in the canyon by the M & M Grill,
and was ranch style cookin' for sure.

We have some comments from participants
we got on video we've posted down below.
And then there's pics - and music -  from the Saloon patio
on Saturday afternoon - with Bernie Romero and Friends,
Last Minute Bluegrass, Stacia Kerkmans,
and Bartender 4 Mayor that night inside.

We put up a little melody below called "On the Trail"
from an old album. Catches the trail ride perty well.

Here's a few comments from the Trail Ride.
In order, the folks are:
Dakota Herkenhoff from Acacia Riding Adventures,
the folks who brought the rental horses for the day,
then Magdalena Otalora,
Charles Galt,
and Loic Gacqme.
It's all good, as they say.

And, back at the Saloon patio, starting at 3 pm -
Bernie Romero, with Lawrence Aragon, and Fidel Baca on bass,
later joined by singer Johnny Krynitez, and then later joined
by a couple of bluegrass characters.
  The songs
are from Bernie's Vaquero Serenade CD,
which came out in 2003.

 Last Minute Bluegrass

Last Minute Bluegrass congealed in the final moments of 2004.
Conceived as a charitable organization to provide jobs for banjo players and keep
bass players out of bars, they have evolved into Socorro's favorite (and only)
bluegrass band.  Winners of the 2012 Santa Fe Bluegrass and Old Time
Music Festival band contest.  Their tight harmonies and upbeat repertoire
make for an enjoyable show!
The members are Ted McVey, Roger Adams, Jin Ruff, Francie Deters,
and Shirley Coursey - joined this Saturday by Jerry Kerwin and Stasia Kerkmans.
